Infrastructure Investment

The American Society of Civil Engineers has issued near failing grades for Texas’ drinking water and wastewater infrastructure. In a further sign of systemic decay, Texas has averaged as much as seven boil water notices per day in recent years. In addition, severe weather events like Hurricane Harvey and Winter Storm Uri are only becoming more common and have exposed deep flaws in the state’s flood and drinking water systems.

In response to this growing crisis, both federal and state lawmakers have designated billions of dollars of new funding to upgrade Texas water infrastructure. Texas Living Waters is a key player in the rollout of this funding. We advocate first and foremost for funding and technical assistance for underserved communities. We also emphasize holistic, integrated planning approaches that take advantage of nature-based solutions. We strongly believe water infrastructure investment will lead to more efficient water usage and improve the long-term water future for both Texas’ growing communities and strained ecosystems.
